As Beijing prepares for a large influx of Olympic spectators, Beijing-based blogger David Feng sets out some ground rules for foreigners new to the city.

And I’m telling you, “Xiao Mei Mei” is worse.

8 days, 8 hours and 8 minutes before the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremonies » 8 Reasons why I wouldn’t watch the games in Beijing

Yeah, I’m in China. But it doesn’t mean that I SHOULD watch the 2008 Beijing Olympics live games in Beijing so before any of you dare ask me the WHY (Oh! Why for Mao Zedong’s sake), here’s 8 reasons why I wouldn’t watch the games in the actual Olympic Arenas:

1. I’m an OFW therefore I will be at work during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
2. The cheapest way to arrive Beijing is by train.
3. The fastest train arrives in Beijing in 10 hours on the average.
4. Single train fares cost from RMB 350 (the kind that you wouldn’t want to take, believe me) to RMB 1000. I have no money.
5. I neither have a telephoto camera nor a binocular. (I’m sure you’ll ask for a lot should I be in Beijing Olympic Arenas)
6. I don’t have tickets. Tickets had been depleted early.
7. I don’t have hotel reservations and even if I had earlier, the cost would be three (3) times as much as normal.
8. Every event will be telecast live on CCTV anyway.

I’m sour graping. Please help me think of other reasons why I couldn’t so I musn’t watch the Olympics.

Note on the title: Believing that 8 is a lucky number, China schedule the Openening Ceremonies on August 8, at exactly 8:08 PM.

How old are you?

“I’m fine, thank you! And how about you?”

A Chinese colleague once told me that a man looked his best when he is thirty.

And I’m not even thirty yet.

Happy birthday to me! ;-)
