Nowadays, or perhaps since time immemorial, the girls’ section of every department stores are overflowing with pink, pink and tons and tons of pink dresses. I don’t see anything wrong with small girls wear pink dresses – I mean that’s just natural – but if pink is all you could see, then that’s when the problem comes in. All pink, for me then, becomes bland and totally unimaginative. It only shows how kids’ clothing manufacturers became too safe, thus lacks creativity and imagination.

Little black checkered dresses

This is why when my wife and I saw this black and white dress at SM Dasmariñas, we knew right there and then that this is what Tifa would wear on New Year’s Eve. So, with all enthusiasm, we bought the dress only to be disappointed upon arriving home because it won’t fit Tifa. The head hole is too narrow even if we already got the biggest size (Tifa will only turn 3 on January 20, we got the size for four-year olds). Fortunately, SM accept returns and replacements and we just had to pick another dress. It took us hours roaming the kids section before we found this purple and white checkered blouse. Paired with white shoes and stockings and a purple head piece, the dress was able to create great style and character.

Purple is the new red. Checkered is the new polka

We’re actually eyeing for a purple pair of shoes but there was no available stock for her size.

Happy New Year everyone!

Eddie VedderPearl Jam’s frontman keeps good company (Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna’s new producer, et al.), but Canada’s Gordon Peterson, aka Indio, probably won’t be getting an invite to Eddie and thefuture Mrs. Vedder’s New Year’s bash this year, as the songwriter behind “Hard Sun” is claiming alleged altered “key lyrics” have “erod[ed] the integrity” of his song on the Into The Wild soundtrack.

Original song here, Vedder’s cover here, and lawsuit info thataway. Lawyers are on the case, of course, but that isn’t the only headline for the “Better Man” singer tonight… And the good news:

The Kennedy Center Honors aired tonight and from the few clips uploaded so far, Vedder’s cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “My City in Ruins” is stealing the Internet’s reaction to the concert thus far.

Watch The Boss loving this flawless version of his inspirational, post-9/11 jam here or below.

Revelers ringing in 2010 will be treated to a so-called blue moon. According to popular definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a month. But don’t expect it to be blue — the name has nothing to do with the color of our closest celestial neighbor.

A full moon occurred on Dec. 2. It will appear again on Thursday in time for the New Year’s countdown.

“If you’re in Times Square, you’ll see the full moon right above you. It’s going to be that brilliant,” said Jack Horkheimer, director emeritus of the Miami Space Transit Planetarium and host of a weekly astronomy TV show.

The New Year’s Eve blue moon will be visible in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa. For partygoers in Australia and Asia, the full moon does not show up until New Year’s Day, making January a blue moon month for them.

However, the Eastern Hemisphere can celebrate with a partial lunar eclipse on New Year’s Eve when part of the moon enters the Earth’s shadow. The eclipse will not be visible in the Americas.

  • In today's afternoon PBB Double Up update, PBB Host Bianca Gonzales gave hints of Mellisa Cantivero's plan to voluntary exit from the PBB House. Is it true or just a fragment of our imaginations? We'll see later this afternoon.

PBB Update December 29, 2009: So it turned out that Melai is not really going out on voluntary exit. Rather, it was just a blooper coined by Big Brother, himself, to test Melai's conviction and character.

Good for her, him and all of us!
