Dismissed Police Captain Rolando Mendoza Hostages Foreigners at Rizal Park

Dismissed Police Captain Rolando Mendoza

Dismissed Police Captain Rolando Mendoza waves from the bus where he held hostage its passengers, composed mostly of tourists from Hong Kong and three Filipinos, on Monday in front of the Quirino Grandstand in Manila. (Photo by LINUS G. ESCANDOR II)

Nakuha pang kumaway ng puta. Dapat habang kumakaway ‘yan e pinatay na ng mga sniper.

Update: 11 hours after the dreadful hostage taking incident inside a tourist bus at Rizal Park, Police Captain Rolando Mendoza is now dead. Thanks to the snipers, kahit late sila umaksyon. 7 hostages were killed during the incident while 8 were wounded and taken to the hospital.

One of the wounded hostages (the one with slashed throat) has died on the hospital.

Hong Kong and other European countries issued travel ban to the Philippines. Several foreign tours booked to the Philippine this December had been cancelled.

Note: For the love of the angry commenters, I have removed my vile remark.

I think what you want to happen is inhuman.. His relatives have nothing to do with his actions. Nice picture you got there tho.. Keep being updated.

But is killing tourists and innocents humane?

by Kotsengkuba on August 23, 2010 at 8:49 pm. Reply #

that’s beside the point. killing the innocent relatives of the hostage-taker won’t solve anything and won’t make up for the killing of the tourists. what if you were the relative of the hostage-taker? would you find it just to be killed all for the sake of avenging the deaths caused by your relative? i find what the cop did horrifying too, but your comments are just too ridiculous and frankly irresponsible. what you’re suggesting isn’t so far from what the nazis did to the jews…killing them just because they’re part of a certain group of people.

You are stupid like him. His relatives have nothing to do with the case. Why kill them? You don’t want him to kill the hostages, but wanted to kill his relatives? VERY VERY STUPID! If you were the president of the Philippines, I would call for impeachment. Stupid!

No doubt what captain Mendoza did was wrong. But if we take a look at his side of the story, we may come to realize that he was a victim of injustice. Based on his background info, he rose from the ranks of a patrol man way up to police senior inspector. In 2008 he was accused of being part of some illegal drug issue. He was suspended of his duties for 90 days for being accused of partaking in the drug issue. No one actually proved that he was guilty. After serving his 90 day suspension, he was reinstated. But in 2009, the PNP leadership dismissed him because they said he had bad reputation already since he was once falsely accused. What came worse was that the PNP didn’t even grant him his retirement benefits. This probably depressed, angered, and aggravated him, leading to the Quirino hostage taking. Again, what he did in Quirino was wrong. But we should know that he was the by-product of PNP injustice. The PNP has created a monster out of a humble policeman.

Thank you for posting this. I can’t believe I’m the only one who shares sympathy for Mendoza despite what he did… Yes, killing innocent tourists is wrong, I’m not saying it’s not. I would hate it if it happened to me. It’s just too bad nobody bothered to hear his side of the story, or even try. There were hardly any negotiations at all. :( Very poor communication right there.

I CAN’T BLIEVE WHAT I”M READING! Since when can there exist sympathy for a mass murderer??? It all comes down to strength of character. Values are strengthened through trials, only liars use them for a excuse to commit more injustices! Just because someone was stabbed in the back at workmeans its OK to kill others???? I know every single company in the world has employees that gets others fired through lies and deciet, its called human nature. Until we re-learn strength of personal character for humankind we will more & more calling murderers victims and slowing removing punishment. Character is knowing the difference between right and wrong and NO MATTER how hard life gets you alays choose the right decision, if you don’t you’re still in the wrong no MATTER what excue you have and have no one to blame but yourself.

greeen i agree on what you have written…. and an addittion to what you have said, Capt. Mendoza was one of the 10 MOST OUTSTANDING POLICE OFFICER and it is not easy to get such a reward, so he is just a victim of the PNP injustice or BULOK na SYSTEMA, still what he did was wrong…

Kahit naging katawatawa tayo s buong mundo sa mga failures ng mga kapulisan natin at sa mga mabagal at bulok na justisya natin. Sana maging wake call sa ating mga agensya sa governmo natin like PNP and Department of Justice. God bless us all.
