Does Tifa want “My Baby All Gone?”

August 20, 2008 under Fatherly Yours

My wife told me how Tifa talks almost non-stop when she’s awake so she warned me never to get irritated with our daughter when they come here with me in a few months time. Though she could barely understand what Tifa were saying, she finally understood one night what our charmer was trying to point out. “Babi kasi eh, yawyaw!” In Tagalog baby talk, it means “Because Barbie don’t want to…” So my wife realized that Barbie was not eating what Tifa was trying to feed her.

Tifa wants a doll which would actually eat what she’s giving.

In an instant, I remembered a television ad in the 80’s about a rag doll which could ‘actually eat cherries’ and ‘drink milk’ from a feeding bottle. It’s called My Baby All Gone and the ad used to come before or after another commercial about a shampoo with a jingle “Big girls don’t cry!” Being a submissive father, I scoured the internet for possible information that could say whether the gluttonous doll still exists in the market and where in the whole could we buy one (if the daddy could afford one).

Unfortunately, two negative reviews first appeared in the search engines for My Baby All Gone.

The first one’s from Amazon (you should scroll down to the product review section) where a disappointed parent narrates how the daughter played with the toy only for two hours and it was never touched from the shelves ever again. Apparently, the ‘funny smell’ of the cans of cherries made her five-year old daughter to shun away from the doll.

Another is from a college blogger who felt ‘cheated’ by the doll’s eating action when she found out only recently how the trick was being done. “I feel like the child who discovered that Santa doesn’t exist!” says the blogger.
