Even while I’m here in China, my Globe roaming mobile phone number is still getting unsolicited SMS alerts and text scams from the Philippines.

Just recently I received a message informing me that I just won Php800,000 from a randam draw and I have to contact a certain person for the details of claiming my prize money. It’s complete with a DTI permit number, almost believable except for they used a +61391######## number instead of the usual #### or ### number formats for legit SMS alerts.

I’m still completely mesmerized by my $2M winning from an e-mail fraud and yet here’s another hundreds of thousands of pesos awaiting for me. I’m not prepared yet to be a the next Multi-Million Dollar Man. Not for now. I may have forgotten about my being a blogger so I was not able to save the message so I can’t share the SMS completely here.

For those of you who are receiving this kinds of SMS alerts, please take your time to check the DTI permit number at the Department of Trade and Industry before you go selling your carabaos and venture the city to claim your prize.

L’habit ne fait pas le moine

The fact that you’re working in a call center doesn’t make you superior to other human beings and neither does it make others less important. Your call center accent and ukay-ukay apparel are not insignias of supremacy. APAC Call Center people are so full of their selves.

Someone from APAC Customer Service, Inc. in Alabang, Muntinlupa called my wife yesterday informing her to come at 10:00AM the next day for an interview. My wife did come to the office on time, if not earlier, and was told to wait for the interviewer. Came lunch time but there wasn’t any sign of the interviewer. The receptionists or whatever they’re called are not doing anything for that matter nor even let my wife to have her lunch while waiting for some divine intervention for the interviewer to arrive. All they did was watch Takeshi’s Castle and played whatever stupid games they have in their desktop computers.

Then perhaps, someone grew some brains in their skulls and pretended to test my wife’s typing speed and let her do some typing activity. It seems that the tiny brain that lady managed to grow underneath her hair was not enough for her to perfect her pretensions. She bid farewell to my wife and immediately went back to her silly computer games. As if she only did the typing test just so my wife would leave the premises. What a pack of unprofessional people.

Sorry if this generalized the rest of the Call Center people but my wife’s experience today is undeniably a manifestation that APAC Customer Service, Inc. people are a bunch of social climbers who thought of themselves as gods and have no need of professionalism.

Don’t let an interviewer come at 10:00 in the morning if you’re not sure you can finish your games at 12 noon.

What’s your Photo Story?

Update 12.02.07 19:22PM: This is a picture of a Chinese girl drying her manicure. Stand-up manicure and pedicure services are scattered all over china whose offers range from simple manicure and pedicure to the latest craze in attachable nails and other nail accessories.

One thing my wife was wondering about when she came here months ago is how they clean their nails without using a cuticle remover. We have almost rounded all shopping centers in the area but we can’t find one except for the acetones. Do the Chinese apply nail polish without first cleaning their nails?

I began blogging in 2005 when Friendster was still a hit and Multiply is showing great potentials because of better functions and bigger data hosting capabilities. However from time to time, I would delete a certain entry, post another and delete the whole blog and the account ultimately. Between those two social network services, I have also tried coding my own site using Dreamweaver and under free hosting services from Brinkster and Websamba. But then China’s All Powerful Great Wall is always blocking my way so the success of those websites did not materialize.

Then came August of 2007, I came across a certain Pansitan and met Ate Sienna who by that time, is looking for new neighbors that she would provide for with sub-domain and free hosting for their blogs. I have already had my domain then (minus the hosting) so I thought having a kotsengkuba.pansitan.net is not really what I’m looking for. And then she introduced me to Wordpress.com where I posted my first entry entitled “Salamat sa Pansit, Salamat sa Batibot.” Since then I have met a few bloggers and my readership became higher and higher each day. And the rest is a multitude of events that my mind’s storage capability was not able to handle. The rest is history and blogging was so addicting.

Recently I received a Friendship badge from at least three persons – Ambo, Bluepanjeet and Malen. I am supposed to pass this badge to other bloggers but since I’m the kind of persons who lacks altruism, what was given to me I do not pass to another.

Life is like a box of hopia, you never know what you’re gonna get. And for this reason, I am giving this magic box to the same three person who acknowledged my presence and passed me that Friendship badge. To Ambo, Bluepanjeet and Malen, for redefining the meaning of online camaraderie, this box goes for you. I don’t know what this box is for either. I just made it and then I pass it.

Before kotsengkuba.com became a google entity, there were two bloggers who secretly linked me to their blogrolls and special pages. To Mithi and that Pinoy in Bermuda, thanks for acknowledging my blogging existence. And to Kengkay, whom I thought is the author of “About My Recovery,” this box goes out for you too.

If you would notice on my sidebar, there are five specials links under the heading “My Super Pinoys.” I don’t need to explain why they were separated from the others. Kiwi Pinay has a personal blog were she narrates her battles and triumphs in the land of the Kiwis. Kwentong Barbero is the workplace wisecracker whose doodlings of his senseless adventures oozes with moral significance. He’s a sheep hiding in a goat’s body. Kwentong Tambay, the grandfather of all OFWs and bullet day FWs. Reyna Elena, the prefect of Social Climbing who made Meriam Webster confused with the definition of blogs and chatrooms. Mommy Journals, her views in family and parenting hasn’t yet failed to amaze me. Her views in politics is becoming interesting.

And to everyone else in the sidebar and elsewhere:

“Thanks for letting me write in your beautiful slumbook.” - Kotsengkuba, when he was in Grade 6

What were you thinking? You came here looking for your daily dose of pornographies and thinking Philippines is a haven for your fantasies and yet arrive here, feeling disappointed to find out Charice Pempengco, applauding foreign audience with her rendition of “And I’m telling you I’m not going.”

This is a campaign I followed from Kengkay, Pinoy Ambisyoso, and Reyna Elena. It was started by Marhgil with the aim of eradicating the keywords “Pinay Scandal” of pornographic content returns from various search engines. As I am composing this post, Marhgil is just a few hits close to infiltrating the search engines and planting good Pinoy content to the keywords “Pinay Scandal.”

The following are top 3 search returns from 3 search engines:

From Google, we still have one site left to beat followed by the campaign starter at Macuha.com.

Our company (like every company in the world) has always been oozing with power-tripping security guard and this month, they got another reason to show off their super powers by catching employees staying in the smoking rooms during working hours. Our department’s 10-minute break-time occurs at 10:00AM and 3:00PM, either than those schedules, no one should be caught staying in the smoking rooms otherwise the guard dogs will take your employee information and e-mail them to all bosses up to the VP level.

This afternoon, around 3:15PM, I went to the smoking room for a coffee and cigarette. I found the guards enjoying their fresh catches. But I did not care. I have the so-called immunity ID. I went straight pass through the guard dogs and light my cigarette and enjoy my coffee. One of the guards attempted to approach me but upon seeing my immunity ID, he backed out immediately.

My ID has a red line printed on it, giving me the immunity from the power aggressive security guards in the company. It’s not that I’m abusing my powers but when I don’t have this mark on my ID before, no one knows how these guard dogs had treated me. And about their break time, maybe they should change it accordingly to separate the operators from the staff levels. The smoking room is so small to accommodate all smokers in the department. Almost every male in China are smokers. One time I smoked on time, everyone was literally face-to-face. Standing.

Despite the strong winds and 5-degree Centigrade temperature, I went outside yesterday to try my luck at buying some winter clothes in the shopping district nearby. A few minutes bus drive and I was there in the jam-packed city snicker Peoples Road otherwise known as Ren Min Lu among the Chinese denizens. What am I saying? My target is to buy a cheap pair of rubber shoes and a decent sweater.

Just a day before that, after I finished buying a few grocery items, I spotted an interesting sweater (or jacket) displayed at BALENO. Yes, while the elite Pinoys would not want to be seen wearing this brand, Baleno is among the top brands in China with the likes of Andy Lau for the endorsers. So back to the sweater (or jacket), it was reversibly wearable, black on one side and light green on the other. I don’t know what kind of garment it was made of but it’s not knitted. I know it’s not knitted because I’ve had enough knitted sweaters and they’re not warm enough for the winter so I wouldn’t be buying any of them again. It was priced at 160RMB (roughly US$21), not bad for the quality so I thought I would buy it. The problem was I have no money with me that time so I decided to leave and come back the next day, if time would allow. The saleslady is pointing me to the ATM machine because I said I have no money now. I told her I don’t have an ATM so she would not insist. LOL!

I knew there’s a bigger Baleno shop in a bigger department store in Ren Min Lu so I thought I’d go there and maybe they’re having a sale. I came to the shop but can’t find the same color I saw the other night. The sales lady is showing me the violet variation. WOW! That was the gay Teletubby so I gave the lady a smirk and went on my way out. I told myself, I’d not buy anything if not the same as what I saw last night where actually I’m only trying to convince myself that I don’t need to buy any sweater else, I’ll have to starve myself again for the rest of the month with bread and mayonnaise dinner.

I left the department store and went through the other shops to look for the rubber shoes. I need a rubber shoes because I thought leathers would not match with jeans and I can’t anymore wear my slacks because of the cold season. My mind was telling me I can only afford a leather shoes but my body is asking for the sneakers. Finally, I came across a suitable pair of sneakers so I decided to buy it. The sales lady who assisted me find the right size have found out I’m a foreigner and tried to deprive me of the 20% discount. The words “buyong” (don’t need) and “Feiliubin” (Philippines) are enough to give me the idea of what’s she’s negotiating with the cashier clerk. Fortunately the clerk is honest enough to ignore the bitch’s suggestions.

I walked a few meters to go to Bai Run Fa, the RT-Mart where I found the jacket (or sweater, I don’t know but it have a zipper) the other night and see if I would buy it. To my dismay (err delight?), the same color or size was not available. It must have been a real good buy for it to loose stock overnight. There still another one on the display (worn by the mannequin) and I told the lady I would want to try it. In the end, I found myself in the cashier paying for that jacket from the display. I’m giving the 2-100RMB to the cashier but she only took one because she said it only cost 99. I don’t know if it’s really on sale or display stocks really come at a discounted prices. I’m thankful though to have saved 51RMB and the sales clerks did not try to cheat me knowing I am a foreigner.

Today the weather is still at 5-degrees C and at noon time, I’m already feeling sick and my body temperature is a rising. Maybe I’ll be sick tomorrow but I still have some foreign customers to have meeting with so I have to force myself to come to office. Good luck to me.

Update 11.25.07 21:02PM: It’s the latest attraction in lake waters in China (or at least in Kunshan). Kunshan is famous for it’s many lakes (be it natural or man-made) and if there’s some shallow water, then there’s some water bubbles (or what’s it really called?) around.

This shot was taken in Forrest Park (Sen Lin Gong Yuan), according to the signboard, it costs 50RMB (around USD7) and you could play inside for 10 minutes. Kind of expensive, isn’t it. We never tried it so we never got to see how one enter inside (but you could see that there’s some zipper-like opening) or if the oxygen (if ever they’re injecting it as you enter, I didn’t get to know) inside could last you for 10 minutes.

We first saw it in Tinglin Park this year and they weren’t there last year.

If there’s one word that I learned out of blogging, that would be the term “hiatus.” Upon seeing that word from some blogs for the first time, the first thing that came to my mind is “halitosis.” Why? I don’t know either. Perhaps because the two words have the same sound, or perhaps it was the same initials.

Hiatus, as defined by Wiki, is a break or interruption in the continuity of a work, series, action, etc. So why are we talking about hiatus here? You don’t have to answer, that’s a rhetorical question. I had the worst case of server errors this month. There were few cases in the past months but this month’s share of internal server errors from my web hosting is totally unacceptable. I have no words left to say and for this reason, I may have to go through a forced hiatus. I hope it don’t have to be like that.

If you happen to be browsing through my blogs and encounter any issues, please take time to send me a note through my e-mail:
