Attacked by a pharmaceutical scoundrel

Remember my recent post about a webhosting review site? Well, I just found out that they’re having their own blog too. Visit their webhosting blog and get updated news and information about web hosting and be a webhosting geek like them.

Anyway, one of our blogging friends from the highest class in the society is having a major overhaul of his domain due to a recent attack from an evil online pharmaceutical firm that I won’t bother revealing. The Queen of Social Climbing’s blog has been seriously attacked. And when I say seriously, I mean SERIOUSLY. More serious than the rampant corruption in the Carabao Republic. His (…am, her?) php files were injected with malicious codes that we you check the main page, it only shows blank but checking the source codes will reveal the villain’s name and the online pharmacy’s website.

HRH tried contacting his webhost for technical support but to his dismay, his request was declined for whatever reason (or excuses) they may have. Fortunately, armed with his forces of computer geeks and debuggers (which he got acquainted with through his endless social climbing globally), he have managed to contain the malicious codes from the scoundrel. His blog is currently is deep slumber waiting for final cyber-ressucitations. Goodluck, you Highness!!! I suggest that you check this post to know more about website vulnerabilities.

Now let me repeat it again for the second time around, once more.

Move your domain hostings to Dreamhost. Use the promo code: IP143FREE when you register with Dreamhost and get a FREE UNIQUE IP FOR LIFE!!!

Our friend, BURAOT have tried and he seems to be happy with it.

Anyway, I too had one pharmaceutical scoundrel lurking around here and spamming my post like hell. The fool even had the guts to leave me a note to send him and e-mail if I wanted him to stop spamming my blog. Unfortunately, he can’t comment without leaving his IP (which he used constantly) so I got him blocked from all of my sites. HAHAHA!!!

Could we still be laughing at our ignorance in the Hopia Wonderland?

Gratefully indebted to Pepeng Agimat, I had to do this update.

Remember the Pinoy Encounters in the Hopia Wonderland? Well, click the link and be not surprised.

This morning, one of our Pinoy acquaintances forwarded a collected emails of grotesque encounters in the Hopia Wonderland. One shows the horrible process a dead chicken would go through to reach its finger-lickin’ goodness. Another reveals the sensual secret behind those tiny colorful hair bands which is hit among the Chinese girls. And the list goes on and on, as if the Milk Scare is not enough.

Find out how cheap materials are being harnessed into a more expensive and highly hazardous goods.

I hope we could all still be laughing at our ignorance in the Hopia Wonderland.

This is not a web hosting review site, that is.

My Dreamhost hosting is about to expire and so are a lot of domain registrations so you could imagine how much email reminders I have been receiving in my mailbox everyday.

You should have realized by now that I have been pestering all of you with my rants (and raves) about web hosting services. So am I turning this place into a hosting review site? Er, no. I’ll just be talking about it from time to time when I feel the necessity to whine about hosting services of the rich and famous. I’ve had reviews of at least three web hostings here that I’ve used in the past (and at the current) but it seems no one has been paying attention (even myself, I believe) so I’m passing the ball over the geeks of website hosting reviews – the Web Hosting Geeks, their homepage is currently plastered with the Top 10 Web Hosting Services so you’ll have a quick idea of which web hosting service is good, or at least in their opinion.

So far, Bluehost and Hostmonster (which I am inclinded to believe are just the same company) were both in the top ten best web hosting list but I couldn’t believe why am I seeing Godaddy who have the longest reputation for being a bad webhosting service provider, bad customer service and bad (insert what you want inserted here).

Here’s a few web hosting reviews from actual webmasters, bloggers or the likes. Believe what you want but please use my affiliate links if you want to register for a web hosting service. You may also use this promocode IP143FREE when you register with Dreamhost and get a FREE UNIQUE IP FOR LIFE!!! This is particularly useful to avoid being swamp blocked by the company IP filters or even by The Great Firewall of China.

NPD (No Permanent Domain)

During the third quarter of this year, I realized I had amassed tons (yeah, they exist therefore have mass and occupies space therefore domains, too have weight) of domains that I couldn’t find any use for and have remained dormant for their entire existence. So at the end of the third quarter, I have made a fourth quarter resolution - I WILL NOT BUY A NEW DOMAIN UNLESS I AM 100% CONFIDENT THAT I CAN FILL THEM WITH CONTENTS!!! (Three exclamation points really are necessary)

Yesterday however, I have noticed that I still have one available domain that I could register for free from my other existing web host (you see, I have been panic buying hosting solutions too) so guess what I did? I REGISTERED A NEW DOMAIN, YEY!!!

I don’t know how I got to have one free domain registration or why did DREAMHOST gave me that but who am I to decline?

So how am I going to do with this domain? I have decided to move out from www.kotsengkuba.com to a more (or less) grandeur www.hopiaencounters.com. And why will I move despite my currently fair share of readership and search engine rankings? Well, this domain have had enough months of PAGE RANK ZERO and I don’t think Google will ever redeem me from further humiliation. Pepeng Agimat had not been so friendly with me because of this so moving to another domain would be the best solution, perhaps. After all, I had been an NPD (No Permanent Domain) for such a long time since I first got hit by The Great Firewall of China.

Google, Google you are sic.
Dropped my Page Rank very quick.

I will not move the contents here to the new domain because I’m afraid these previous contents had been Google cursed. So see you there, I have nothing more to say to you.

Isang mensahe para sa mga hitch-hikers: hindi nyo po kailangan maalarma or matakot sapagkat hindi po tayo maglilipat ng domain. Relax lang kayo jan, stay cool ang keep blogging. You know who you are so As you were!!!

Tifa in Harajuku Girls Fashion

Harajuku is an area in Tokyo between Shinjuku and Shibuya where the infamous Harajuku Girls fashion became a hit among Japanese youth in the area. According to Wikipedia, the term Harajuku Girls has been used by English-language media to describe teenagers dressed in any fashion style who are in the area of Harajuku since 2004. These girls may be affiliated to some youth groups such as Gothic Lolita, Ganguro, Gyaru, and Kogal, or may often cosplay as characters from an anime, movie, or manga which explains the character designs of the Harajuku Fashion.

Currently in the Philippines, despite it’s being a tropic, Harajuku fashion is becoming a hit among the youngsters and young adults. I don’t know how they cope with this kind of fashion in a tropical country but who cares anyway. Fashion is fashion and is never a crime.

When we came across a flea market selling Harajuku Girls clothes for kids, we can’t help but look for something that will fit Tifa and haggle until the price is right. At least it’s cold in this part of the hemisphere so Tifa could deal with the Harajuku.

Here’s Tifa in her Harajuku attire. I hope we could find a more Goth Lolita or at least when she grow taller.

Mags, books at ang g-shirt ng mga gwapo

So as I’ve written on a previous post, my wife came here from the Philippines. And with her every visit here in China, she would bring for me some Filipino goodies – some I have purposely requested, others are random surprise. Here’s a few of what she have for me this time:

3 back issues of i-mag Photography Magazine from my sister-in-law, pilot issue of NOSEBLEED Magazine featuring Kwentong Barbero (as blogger of the month or something to that effect), and Jessica Zafra’s Twisted 5 (which I read if I have spare times at night) and 8 (that I read in the office at daytime). About the NOSEBLEED Magazine, I only read Badoodle’s part because I didn’t liked the mag’s layout, it’s worse than our high school paper.

Then this ANTIPATIKO t-shirt from negativiTEE, ang g-shirt ng mga gwapo

Summary: The Flu shot offered by Sunshine Children’s clinic is imported from France, and is suitable for both Adults and Children

Regular Flu shots cost 200 RMB, and through the Group discount rate, CCS is able to offer this shot for 150 RMB. YOu will find the benefits of the flu shot in below description

Bring payment Nov 8.

Flu Shot: the best way to protect you and your child against the flu.

1. Why should I take the flu shot?

China is among the areas with more flu outbreaks. There is an estimated flu incidence of up to a thousand million cases each year in China. The virus responsible for the 1957, 1968, and 1977 flu outbreaks were all originated from China.

Children are two-to-three times more likely to be infected by the flu than adults. The flu incidence among children of 0-6 years of age can reach 30-40%, or higher. In general, the younger the child, the more chance there is for him or her to be infected, the more severe the disease might develop, and the riskier it will be for the child, all because of their less-developed immune system.

Because the flu is a viral infection, antibiotic treatment will not work to eliminate it. In addition, flu virus changes over time. So far, there are no specific medications to treat the flu effectively. Annual vaccination is the most powerful way to fight against the flu.

2. What happens after the flu shot?

The flu vaccine works by triggering your body’s immune response via a mild “infection”. When you get a flu vaccine, your body recognizes the flu virus as a foreign invader and starts to produce antibodies to it in about 2 weeks, and reach to the highest level in about 4 weeks. Afterward, when your body encounters the flu virus, it will remember that it is a hostile invader and quickly launch an immune attack to kill off the virus.

3. What are the side effects?

Severe side effects are rare, but some people might experience mild flu-like symptoms, including low-grade fever, tiredness, headaches and running nose. Some show soreness and/or rash at the shot site. The side effects usually begin within a few hours after the flu shot and last for about a couple of days.

4. Why get a flu shot every year?

Flu strains change each season, and the vaccine recommended by WHO is updated every year in order to provide the best protection. The three flu strains identified in 2008 are totally different from those in 2007. In addition, because immunity declines over time, booster shots become necessary in order to generate enough immune power to defeat the viruses.

5. Who should get the flu shot, when, and where?

Infants older than 6 months should be vaccinated because they are vulnerable to the virus and to severe complications, including death. Children in daycare, preschool and elementary school should also be vaccinated due to the easy-spreading possibility, and still vulnerable immunity. The other recommended populations include older adults (60 and older), people with chronic health problems（for example, asthma）, and professionals whose work involves close contact with the above people.

The flu shot time recommended by the government is September through November, but a shot at the following months is not too late, and will provide the protection for the rest of season.

Sunshine Children’s Clinic is authorized by the government to provide the vaccination service to foreign nationals.

6. What else should I do?

In addition to the flu shot, you should also follow the following in order to fight off the flu virus: J Exercise to get yourself and your immune system strong; J Keep good hygiene practice, wash hand whenever necessary, and stay away from the person who is suffering from the flu; J Enough intake of nutrients, more lighter food, and enough drink of water; J Keep enough night sleep, and be happy.

On missing posts and my three domain hosts

I realized I lost two months of blog posts when I moved this blog from webhost to webhost. It happened when this blog was blocked by the Great Firewall of China (when it never had a dedicated IP, you could see the details here) and I had to move it to my Dreamhost hosting account. When I finally got a dedicated IP, I tried to move it back to my Hostmonster hosting but for some unexplained reason, the Wordpress blog import on Hostmonster only allows uploading 2MB of xml file (Dreamhost allows up to 7MB) so I have to truncate the files into 2MB segments and during the process, everything got messed up and the two months of blog post were lost in oblivion.

I despised most about having lost my entries about massive Hangzhou invasion earlier this year.

In my entire span of blogging, I have personally tried 3 webhosts – Netfirms, Dreamhost and Hostmonster, in their respective order. Needless to day, the first one is the worst and the last is currently the best, so far. I would not recommend Netfirms. Never!!!

My Dreamhost account still exists and currently holding a few of my so many domains. It will expire in about a month and I was thinking whether I need to renew it or let it expire. I’m still undecided. So is for my current host, I’m not sure if this would be the last one.

The best webhosting solutions may not be in existence at the moment but in order to know the closest one, or at least the one which could give you the least trouble, there are so many pointers one needs to look at. But here’s a few things I would recommend you to check before finally signing up at giving up your hard-earn money.

1. Check for feedbacks from those who had actual experience hosting their domains on web hostings.
2. Look for opinions and discussions from forums with related niche.
3. There also are websites with offers web hosting reviews and ratings which you may check for some suggested names or lists. Then you could go comparing information from one and two.

Look do we have here!

If you would think that I went out to Shanghai just to watch Lea Salonga belt her lungs out as Cinderella, then you are wrong. Though not completely wrong since I could have just went there later in the afternoon instead of leaving the house at 9:00 in the morning so Barney couldn’t be thinking he made a total fool out of me. And besides, I still managed to buy a regular ticket just because I could afford to

Anyway, I went to Shanghai last Sunday to pick up (I hope I could think of a better word) my wife, my daughter and my mother-in-law at the Pudong International Airport later that day. YEY!!!

So as you would see, my wife and I were now so accustomed to Cebu Pacific Air’s flight schedule so we already know the routines. They leave Manila at around 8:00 in the evening, spend 3 or so hours inside the airplane without food or water (unless they spend a fortune on Cebu Pacific Air’s in-flight menu) and arrive Shanghai Airport before midnight. Meanwhile, I go to the Pudong Airport 2 and book at hotel room at Motel 168 Super (which seemed to have increased the hotel fare big time but the front desk officers denied, current rate is not RMB 358.00 and sorry I lost my previous post on this airport hotel), stay for the night and take the first Long Distance Bus Service at 10:30 in the morning. We didn’t choose to take the MagLev – Subway – Train way because we’re carrying too much luggage.

And so we’re here
